Basement Excavation – Barrowgate Road, Chiswick

Barrowgate Road Basement Dig BlogJudging by our ongoing subterranean basement excavation project in Chiswick and this picture taken by Duncan Gunn – RRA’s London Director – there is a dearth of high quality, reportage photography from what are often very dynamic and photogenic scenes, within subterranean construction sites across London.

Not only is Duncan a registered architect but he also trained as a photographer in the USA and Oxford, so his opinion is worth listening to.

“I visit our construction sites several times a week and have noticed how visually dynamic they all are”, Duncan says. “There is toil and effort from the site operatives, alongside the mechanical power of the machinery. The two combined give the potential for very dynamic photography.”

With this in mind we plan to show some of these reportage photographs within our construction site blogs, from Duncan and other RRA staff, and hope that you will enjoy them.

This shot is taken at Barrowgate Road, in Chiswick, London, where RRA is extending a basement to double its original size. The project will include a new feature-stair between the basement games room and a dining space. As you can see work is well underway, with completion due in early December 2015.

The contract value is £350,000 and the contractor is Space Basements. We are pleased to be able to use Fineline Aluminium’s range of thin-sightline sliding doors on this project and we are looking forward to a stunning finished project just in time for Christmas.
